JERRY ‘THE JET’ ROY

Wonderful father and Huntington sports legend, Alfred “Jerry” Roy, 82 of Dallas, TX. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 6th in Orange County, CA where he had been living for the past several years to be near his children.  Huntington sports enthusiasts will remember the excitement and pride that our Jerry “the Jet” gave us back in the 50’s.

He is survived by his 2 children, daughter Angela Roy Plaskett of San Clemente, CA, and son Christopher Roy of Austin, TX and his 4 beautiful grandchildren Nicholas, Hannah, Benjamin, and Juna, brother John Roy of Aiken, SC and former wife Nina Hatfield Roy Selby of Orange County, CA.

Jerry graduated from Huntington High School in 1958, and graduated from Marshall University in 1965. Upon graduation, he fulfilled his ROTC commitment and served 2 years in the ADJ Corp of the US Army at the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.  Jerry then went on to enjoy a long and successful career in the carpet industry, living and working in Dallas, TX as a Regional Manager for Wunda Weve and Hollytex.

Jerry had an outstanding athletic career. He was a member of the West Virginia Athletic Hall of Fame and Huntington High School Athletic Hall of Fame. His career began at age 13 when he won the National Marbles Championship in Asbury Park, NJ.
